Fisher’s Tech Support Services Director Shares Best Practices at Tech Summit

Michael Allington, director of Technology Support Services at St. John Fisher College, participated in a panel presentation at the NYSERNET Tech Summit 2015 Conference, held on June 11 and 12, in Albany.

The presentation, Controlled Chaos – Managing Appliances on Your Network, discussed how to deal with devices, including printers, cameras, vending machines, and mobile devices that appear on networks. The panelists discussed how these devices often appear on networks unannounced, with minimal configuration options and unclear ownership, and how to deal with them from the policy, detection, isolation, and baseline configuration perspective.

Allington was joined on the panel by Jeff Murphy, security program manager at the University at Buffalo; Marty Manjak, information security officer at University at Albany; Eric Kenny, network and security engineer at Marist College; and Antoine Harrison, chief information officer at Schenectady County Community College.
