Lavery Librarians Win Audience Award at Fast Pitch Competition

Kate Ross, head of technical services at St. John Fisher College’s Lavery Library, recently won the Audience Choice Award during the Charleston Library Conference’s Fast Pitch Competition. The conference, an informal gathering of librarians, publishers, electronic resource managers, consultants, and vendors of library materials, seeks to advance the discussion of issues important to these stakeholders.

At the 2017 conference, attendees could apply to compete in the first-ever Fast Pitch Competition, which is intended to help bring library innovations to life more quickly. The competition, sponsored by the Goodall Family Charitable Foundation, awards two winners – a judges’ choice and audience choice. Ross was one of four applicants selected to present at the competition.

Ross pitched the Library’s Coordinated Collection Development API, which she developed in collaboration with Kourtney Blackburn, access services librarian at Fisher. This tool, which has already been awarded two grants, connects different data systems together to provide collection and interlibrary loan data required for multiple libraries to use in order to begin to achieve coordinated collection development.

With the audience award win at the Charleston Conference, Ross and Blackburn will have $2,500 to help make the tool interoperable with other software for wider adoption.
